GP Saddles

If you see a saddle or ten that you like the look of, or even if you hate them all, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. (Details available on the Contact Us page). We try not to sell saddles simply on what you think you need and always prefer to fit to you and your horse because that's often a different story altogether! Saddle fitting can be done at your place or mine and is included in the price of any saddle of €200 or more within 30 miles. If you spend less or live further fees start at €30 to cover petrol. Also included is a 14 day full money back happiness guarantee If you want to go it alone that's fine too, saddles can be posted out for €20, full refund on safe return within 14 days.

219. This Excelle is 18in wide fit and could easily be mistaken for an Albion K2 GP. It has the same front gussets and extra large knee rolls, well cared for and not over used.€520

222. English made by Kirkham Saddlery this GP is a generous wide fit. A little older but clean condition and comfy 17.5in seat. €260

214. English 17.5in saddle, Xw fit. This one is very clean, has a black studs with a horse head motif but I am not sure of the brand. Could suit a roly poly. €295

215. Fabulous big saddle from Nathanial Underwood with an Origin brand. 18in, M/MN, front gussets, deep panels in excellent condition €525

204. Black 17in saddle by the ever popular Paul Jones, this one is in good order and has a well padded seat if that appeals to you. Medium fit €375

216. GFS, the ever popular Pro Event, this one is a 17.5in Medium, great condition and low miles €410

200. This Kensington (these saddles are usually know as a Kes) is slightly faded on the seat. It has done so little work otherwise I can only think it has been on holiday in the sun. 17.5in wide, great knee roll €320

199. This little saddle - 17in, feels bigger - has a tree symbol on the studs similar to the Oakland House logo but I couldn't be sure. Mw tree, the seat is broad, great for girl seat bones, always wider than boy ones however skinny you are. Some would say VSD, Lovely Mahogany colour, €185

201. Made by Hastilow this saddle has been fitted with a brand new tree, as so often happens the seat had stretched a little and this has now been filled with foam so if you need to spoil yourself it could be for you. Small 17.5, wide fit. €260

194. Made by Paul Jones, this 17.5 medium fit GP is in fair order, has a useful kneeroll and shouldn't break the bank at €290

196. Stubben Parzival in sparkling condition, 18in seat 28 fit (a bit narrow of medium), this saddle has hardly been out of the box, longing for a busier life €495

197. This English saddle is unbranded, with a long flap and semi deep seat. 17.5in and the fit is medium narrow. €250

189. Silhouette in very clean condition, front gussets to help the fit, 17.5in seat and I would say m - mw. Comfy saddle, the last one of these went back to England - they couldn't let it go! €495

190. This is a IV Horse - pronounced 4 horse as in mythology, sometimes called an Ivy.  Made in England however, not Rome. This one is in good nick, nice round seat with a deep panel that could suit a more angular fit. €350

191. Looks new doesn't it? I fear it has led a lonely life in a shed somewhere and while there are a couple of knocks it is pretty shiny now it's had a dust. Don Rodrigo (Spanish on a Stubben tree) 17.5 m, Tough saddle would survive well on the hunting field or maybe in a riding school €250

184. Another Paul Jones (almost an epidemic at the moment) this one is soft, medium wide fit and 17in tree. It's one of those saddles which I think of as 'easy fit' in that it seems to have good potential on a variety of horses. A few miles done, the black is slightly faded €270

185. Flashy little saddle from Eqxtra this is the Cobra Hunter model. Has a few virtues - wider than wide, suede seat centre for security and flaps that wrap around the knee rolls so nicely they release the full support potential, if you know what I mean. 17in excellent condition €460

178. This Frank Baines has a little age to it, dark brown in colour, a bit rubbed up the front edge but it is everything you would expect from such an iconic name. 17in mw, understated quality. €195

179. A slightly curious combination of black and brown leather this Barnsby still has a good few miles in it. There are a couple of marks on the seat which look suspiciously like the place where perished rubber reins have rested but otherwise clean and tidy. 17.5in m. €195

182. Excellent condition this very black Black Country speaks for itself. 17in seat, medium fit or a shade narrower. €395

186. Unbranded but has all the hallmarks of another Paul Jones but without the label. 17in medium, very low miles, in fact as new condition. €350

170. Lovatt and Ricketts 17in, good medium, €220 on trial

192 .Unbranded English made gp, 17in medium fit,  useful saddle in clean condition €185

177. Brown cob saddle, 16.5 wide. Makers mark has rubbed off, useful English saddle €250

152. Brown gp saddle from Barker Saddlery. Large knee rolls and thigh blocks making this saddle secure and comfortable. Lovely soft seat for those seeking a bit of comfort. 17.5" seat, medium fitting. €475

176. Black Albion K2 GP, 17.5 mm tree (medium warm blood). Great condition, slightly stretched seat, naughty little thing is facing the wrong way! €550

141. This one seems to like it here and has been before. 18in Excelle (English company now gobbled up by Ideal) it has a wide gullet and big wide load spreading panels which any horse will love you for. Wide fitting it has a slightly curved contour so not for a very flat back. Square cantle and large forward flaps should carry you all day in comfort. €395

142. I have to say that came up well with a clean. 17in Beaufort (made, I think, by Lovatt and Ricketts) medium fit this one is brown and is in good order but has been round the block a time or two. The seat has lost some colour but retains a shiny surface. Bit of wear on the flaps and front of the seat but a useful GP for every day and shouldn't break the bank at €180

140. Great condition black saddle by Paul Jones, a value for money English brand which is popular across many disciplines. This one has an 18in seat but the panel is a little shorter so could suit a shorter backed horse teamed with a fuller figure rider. Little used it has a flocked panel and wide gullet, I would put the fit on the wide side of medium wide. Nice and shiny, smart saddle, could go hunting or make a comfy GP. €440

213. GFS Pro Event this is the VSD model for those who have a closet dressage habit but like to get out and about with the gang too. Black and in very clean condition the seat is a generous 17.5in, a very soft and well cared for saddle, the tree is on the wide side of medium wide. These sometimes work well on big shouldered horses but are a good tempered fit option for many. Flock panel which is in good condition. €325

82. Another biggy this one is 18in + and medium wide. Made by Global (a Walsall firm of times gone by) it is one of the best ones of theirs I have come across. Solid quality with low miles I'd say this has been stored. One new strap fitted and the rest have been restitched as the thread was a bit dodgy. Good black colour, the only snag is a couple of light teeth marks where a horse has tried to take a bite. Really generous flaps, could suit a long legged pilot. €285

112. Slightly unusual GFS this is not the common cut but rather deeper in the seat so if you are a bit wobbly or just like the feel of it could make you feel safe. Sits slightly narrower than these usually do but well supported with deep gussets. Very smart there is a small bit of colour loss on the cantle but no leather wear or damage so this can soon be put right with a dab of dye. It is a 17in or possibly small 17.5 on a medium tree and has hardly been out of the box since new, lovely condition, someone should be pleased with this. €450

103. Made for a long day in the hunting field this is a spacious 18.5, probably not as deep as it looks in the pic. The badge is Olney Saddlery and it is on a wide tree. Born black there is some colour fading but otherwise good to go and you needn't worry about the weather forecast. €250

58. Black Manor Saddlery, 17.5in,  this one has a good wide panel which gives a good bearing surface and wide gullet. Secure seat it is a GP although slightly straighter than average. There are 5 straps on each side to help perfect fit and security (I recommend that you mark your chosen straps with a bit of coloured tape to help you use the same ones on each side, each time) and is on a medium wide tree. €300

104. Solid trade - back this Stubben Seigfried is a 28 (medium) and has good head space (clearance over the wither from the tops of the padded parts of the panel). Advanced years have hardly made an impression on the stoutly built old quality of this, I'd say it has a good few years to look forward to. What happened to Stubben? This just puts the saddles they produce today in the shade for toughness and durability, though perhaps not for sumptuous luxury. 18in, €250 (a little creature is hiding under those planks)

2. 17in X wide or even XX wide this little english saddle is in new condition and was a made to measure for a lad who took early retirement. Straight enough to show in but with enough knee roll to support some fun (planned or otherwise). For the full figure it sports a point strap to help you find a bit of security on a swiss roll. €550

55.  GFS not Flair. Although marked with the Flair badge this one has been converted to Flock. It is a job I do quite often on an old air system as they can cause trouble of various sorts - next time I'll post some pics and explain. Air leaks, plastic fatigue, ageing sellotape joints and plastic over laps showing through the leather all crop up. So all flocked and good to go, 17.5in with a wide tree €320

30. This one has a narrow 17.5in seat, well flocked panel gussets at the back and I know it has a leaning towards horses who are slightly big in front but a little lower under the saddle. Made by Lovatt and Ricketts on a medium tree it is in fair condition but as so often happens with black saddles there is some colour fading on top. A bargain at €230 because of it.

14. This measures a good 17.5 but looks strangely smaller - narrow fit, flat seat, square back by Wychanger Barton Saddlery, in overall fair condition with good knee rolls. High wither fit but when you need it you really need it. €275
67. Stubben Seigfried this one has a 17.5in seat and disproportionately large flaps which makes the seat looks smaller and actually looks good. The colour is a bit 'iffy', but nothing a regular moisturizing routine wouldn't put right. It is a medium fit and looks a little odd in the photo as it is suffering from stiffness which can be easiy resurrected with a little oil. Not over worked a tidy saddle €250

46. Roomy saddle with a good size cut back head for plenty of wither clearance, the width is medium and the seat is big - 19in. Suit a large partnership, it is little used but not the last word in luxury, good size flaps for the longer leg. €200
